Earth Day

Saturday Mobi and I headed over to campus for the Earth Day celebrations. The highlight was the parade of species. There was also music and vendors and the WSU students pitching tents around the lawn, though I'm not sure if they planned to sleep there or not.Juan only briefly attended because he was feeling under the weather. And sure enough, today he stayed home with a fever. :( I took one of my grading stacks and sat on a bench while Mobi sniffed around in the dirt or begged passersby to pet her. I'm trying to socialize her more, since she just goes on overload with lots of people around. It was just so nice to be outside in Spring weather (finally). I am definitely looking forward to the end of the semester. Two days of classes left!

DONE!!!!

The past couple of weeks I have been furiously working on a paper I had to submit for an oral exam next month. I finally finished it yesterday afternoon (!!!) With a total of 50 pages, it is officially the longest paper ever written by me. Needless to say I am exhausted. Now I just have to wait for my trip to Boston next month for the exam. Oh yeah, and start grading the piles of papers that have been accumulating in my office. So, back to work.

Easter

We had a really fun Easter. Starting on Saturday, Juan hid 24 Cadbury eggs around the house. Above you see the 16 I've found so far. I swear I've searched the whole house, and since he's started threatening to keep all those I can't find, I'm thinking there was a conspiracy all along... It just really shouldn't be that hard.

On Sunday we had lunch at a friend's house. The food was heavenly and the company was a lot of fun. There were 12 adults and 4 teenagers. Some of the highlights included the plastic Easter egg hunt (I found none); the kids decorating some hollowed-out eggs filled with sugar confetti that were then thrown at them by their parents; the kids shooting Nerf darts at apples on their heads; and everyone comparing their country's Easter traditions. We had Argentina, Brazil, France, Italy, and Spain represented. Most were pretty similar, with the exception of the flying bells that dropped eggs to the children below (France). This led to a discussion of the source of the Easter tradition with a bunny that lays eggs. Apparently, Easter is based on an ancient Anglo-Saxon goddess, Estra, who supposedly saved a bird whose wings had frozen during the winter. She changed it into a rabbit, but it maintained it's ability to lay eggs. And now you know, too.
Here is the yarn I used for my flashy tank top, since some of you asked: Katia Capri and Katia Pinta Print. I'm not sure what I'll be doing with the remaining yarn. I finished the back of Rambling Rose, as you can see. Amazingly enough, there was no drama involved. But I have two front pieces and sleeves to go, so lots of time for mistakes yet.

Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen

Overheard this morning while trying to relax during a facial:

"I had this woman in the other day and she had the most FABulous skin. She said she never smoked, or went to bars and just used sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen."

"Wow, good for her"

"Yeah, 58 and not a wrinkle. I was so jealous."

"I always put on sunscreen."

"Yeah, me, too. Except when I go to the tanning bed, because then I want my face to look kinda burnt."

VOLVER

Volver, Pedro Almodovar's latest movie, is out on DVD today. You now have no reason not to watch it. And no hogwash about having to read subtitles. Just go do it. Go on, you can thank me later.
